Austria · SELF-GUIDED TOURS IN VIENNA
Think of it as the list you would text a friend landing on Friday: 15 self-guided tours in Vienna, each with what it costs, what travellers made of it and the one catch worth knowing.
Explore Mozart’s only preserved Vienna apartment, hear his story in 13 languages, and add Haus der Musik for a full day of music.
“What an amazin concert! Pure class. However, it was a shame we were not allowed to take photographs or videos. Although I understand how disruptive it can be, it is a good way to spread the word about this experience.”
Explore Vienna’s New Hofburg with an audio guide, Imperial Armoury, Mozart’s fortepiano, Habsburg history, and royal rooms.
“Easy to find ticket counter. Overall nice place. Signage pointing out the numbers of exhibits for audio guide could be clearer. Exhibit is comprised of 50% suits of armor and 50% antique music instruments- or it felt like it. If those aren’t your main interests- just photograph the outside.”
Explore Vienna’s Schlumberger wine cellars, learn traditional sparkling wine making, hand-riddle bottles, and enjoy a tasting.
“What a fun experience! It’s hard to imagine what is waiting for you after looking at the building from the outside. It was a wonderful, self paced and informative tour of history. Ended with a lovely tasting and the opportunity to taste their delicious bubbles and hang out in their tasting room. Bonus was the art galleria upstairs!”
Explore Vienna independently with a 16-envelope scavenger hunt through St. Stephen’s, Hofburg, Heldenplatz, and more.
“Im Zuge von einem Betriebsausflug haben wir diese Jagd gemacht. War lustig. Wir haben für 12 Stationen 1,5 Stunden gebraucht. Ich denke in 2 Stunden kann man fertig sein.”
Review of Vienna’s self-guided Great Plague exploration game, with medieval sights, puzzles, pricing, practical tips, and honest drawbacks.
“A good way to see the city sights but I was hoping for more history facts and information. I should have read the description better, I don't think I would have booked.”
Explore central Vienna at your own pace with a $8.40 smartphone audio tour covering 29 landmarks, cafés, palaces, churches, and music sites.
“This was a great tour but you have to know that it takes a lot longer than couple of hours. It’s a good introduction to Vienna.”

“The application doesn't work properly, many bugs. Not worth paying for this.”
Review of Vienna’s $11.99 self-guided audio walk, covering landmarks, app use, route, value, drawbacks, and who should book.
“Interesting and informative at the same time! Loved the self-paces nature of it too. It was a great guide to wandering the city with some stories about what was around us. One minor flaw - we were charged twice for this - once through trip advisor and once through viator.”
Explore Vienna’s Old Town at your own pace with a practical booklet covering 14 sights, café tips, maps, tickets, and local history.
“Very easy to follow - took us to great places in the town”
Explore Vienna through Freud, Mozart, and Beethoven with an offline puzzle game linking famous sights and lesser-known corners.

Explore Vienna’s major sights with a flexible app-led scavenger hunt, audio stories, riddles, and local tips for about $9.61.
“This was so much fun to do. We saw many important sights and learned a lot about each. My husband, who hates sightseeing tours, loved this one. Hint: bring pen and paper with you.”
